Morel Madness!
In the Spring, when the weather and temperature are perfect, the elusive and delicious morel emerges. On this foray you will be taken to places where they typically grow, and shown how to identify the trees and habitats they usually prefer. People have spent years unsuccessfully looking for morels, our goal is to help you skip the learning curve and focus entirely on foraging these highly sought after edible fungi!
But it’s about more than just finding mushrooms. It’s an invitation to rediscover nature, unearth its treasures, and foster a deeper connection with our surroundings. You’ll learn more about the forest ecosystem, its inhabitants, and the vital role fungi plays within it. Participants also love the opportunity to meet and connect with other fungal enthusiasts who have a deep love and appreciation for the natural world.
Come join us in the beautiful Stanislaus National Forest for an unforgettable experience!
Each tour will have a maximum of 20 people. The length of the season is completely determined by weather, so make sure you book quickly to ensure the morels are still here and the spots are available! We’ve had a ton of interest and expect a large turnout.
Details:
Tours start Friday April 25th and will run rain or shine every following Friday, Saturday, and Sunday as long as the morel season persists. You can book for either one, two, or all three days per weekend.
Each tour will be from 10 am to 4 pm (approximately 6 hours)
The specific meetup location will be emailed to all registered participants a few days prior to the event. We will be scouting locations prior to each tour to ensure the highest chance of looking in the right spots. It will be somewhere near beautiful Pinecrest Lake, CA, which is a short few hour drive from the Bay Area. There is lodging, and paid and free dispersed camping in the area for people who sign up for multiple days. If you are joining for 2+ days and are unsure where to stay, just contact us for information directly at sayhitofungi@gmail.com
Children up to the age of 6 can participate for free when accompanied by parents or guardians.
After we wrap up our time in the woods, we will be cooking and serving these and any other edible fungi we find along the way to all attendees who are interested. That way you can personally experience how rewardingly tasty your hours of hard work in the woods can be.
